Starting in the residential sector, Ernest Hotte Inc. later expanded into commercial and industrial roofing solutions. In the 1950s, the company began developing its expertise in large-scale projects beyond residential work. Despite its growth and advanced expertise in the commercial market, Ernest Hotte Inc. has preserved its family-oriented approach, where strong business relationships are built on mutual respect. Our evolution

A remarkable timeline

  • 1930 : The beginning

    • Company founded by Mr. Ernest Hotte in Montreal, at the corner of St-Clément and Ontario streets.
    • Specialized in residential roofing and projects for general contractors (hospitals, churches, schools, and public buildings).

  • 1945 : Local growth

    • Relocation to 2150 St-Clément Street in Montreal to support business expansion.

  • 1950 : First industrial contract

    • Secured the first industrial roofing maintenance contract, marking a strategic diversification.

  • 1960-1970 : A family and strategic transition

    • George A. Hotte succeeds his father as President and steers the company toward collaborations with all three levels of government, school boards, and industrial clients.
    • Michel Hotte (3rd generation) joins the company in 1966.
    • Ernest Hotte Inc. becomes a member of the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association in 1966 and the Quebec Master Roofers Association (AMCQ) in 1970.

  • 1977-1991 : Leadership and recognition

    • Secured the first roofing maintenance contract for the CECM (now CSSDM).
    • Michel Hotte becomes President in 1977 and later serves as President of the AMCQ in 1986.
    • Michel Poissant joins the company in 1991, after serving as Chair of the Technical Committee in 1985 and Chairman of the Board in 1989 at the AMCQ.

  • 2004-2013 : A new generation takes the lead

    • Michel Poissant becomes President in 2004, while his son, Stéphane Poissant, joins the company as Vice-President.
    • In 2013, Stéphane Poissant becomes President and owner. He actively participates in the technical committees of the AMCQ and the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (ACEC).

  • 2019 to present : Innovation and influence

    • In 2019, Stéphane Poissant receives the Jean-Luc-Poulin Award from the AMCQ for his outstanding contribution to the industry.
    • In 2020, he is elected Chair of the Technical Committee of the Quebec Master Roofers Association (AMCQ).
    • In 2022, the company relocates to its current headquarters at 3-95 Chemin du Tremblay, Boucherville.
    • From 2021 to 2024, Stéphane Poissant serves as Chair of the National Technical Committee of the Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (ACEC).
    • In 2024, he is elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the AMCQ.
    • Also in 2024, he is elected to the Board of Directors of the ACEC.
